The island of El Hierro is the most southern and western of the Canary Islands. That is the most southern and western place in Europe.

Is the smallest one and also the one with less population, with a surface of 278 km2 and a population of less than 10.000 inhabitants.
It was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in year 2000 and in 1997 was declared the Marine Reserva "Punta Restinga - Mar de Las Calmas". Actually, there's a plan to make the island self sufficient in energy that is 100% renewable.

Because most of the land is protected, we can find beautiful landscapes, underwater and topside, practically not changed by the human action.

Walking around the island, we can see from rock deserts to green forests, valleys, beaches, cliffs and other interesting landscapes with altitudes from sea level to 1.500 metres.
We cannot forget most of the beautiful views from the viewing-points, such as "mirador de bascos" or "mirador de las playas".

There are also interesting places made by the people, Las Puntas, El Pozo de Las Calcosas, The Light House of Orchilla, or Mirador de La Peña.
We will find many shops over all the island with interesting products.

There is also an excellent gastronomy, emphasizing the fresh products from the island: fish, sea food, meat, vegetables and tropical fruit. And elaborated products like cheese, wine, "gofio" and many desserts.

To all this we have to add the excellent climate, with very mild winters with temperatures over 19º and not very hot summers, with temperatures around 25ºC at the coast.

You will find in El Hierro a paradise to enjoy the relax, natural environment, an excellent gastronomy and of course beautiful dives.
